With the NBA Finals in full swing, the American Airlines Arena, home to the Eastern Conference champion Miami Heat, held court in the No. 1 position for the second consecutive week in TicketNews’ exclusive venue rankings.

The Heat currently hold a two games to one lead over the Oklahoma City Thunder with two more games remaining at the American Airlines Arena later this week. Although the NBA Finals were the driving force to get the arena to top of the rankings, upcoming concerts also played a role. Rockers Coldplay will visit South Beach on June 22, 23 and 29; the Global Warming Tour featuring Aerosmith and Cheap Trick has a show on July 28; the American Idol Live tour is on July 29; and the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus will bring the greatest show on earth to Miami from August 1 through August 12.

Making its debut in the rankings is Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing, NY, coming in at No. 4. The stadium, named for the tennis legend of the same name, will host the U.S. Open Tennis Championship running from August 27 through September 9.

The stadium will kick-off the start of the tournament with a kid’s day on August 25. The event will feature games, activities and a tennis clinic. Rounding out the day will be a concert and although the artists have yet to be announced, past performers at the event have included the Jonas Brothers, Rihanna and Justin Bieber.

With the Tony Awards recently being held, Broadway show lovers around the country helped push several theaters onto the rankings this week. The Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco jumped up to No. 6 and is currently showing American Idiot until July 18. Following in the No. 7 spot is the Pantages Theater in Los Angeles, which currently has the Million Dollar Quartet running until July 1. The Eugene O’Neill Theater in New York who moved up to the No. 2 position this week and is the Broadway home of the hit musical, The Book of Mormon.

TicketNews Exclusive Rankings and Power Scores are based on ticket sales for venues from the TicketNetwork Exchange™. A Power Score illustrates a given venue’s significance among all other venues listed in the Exchange. Two factors are used to calculate a power score: total ticket sales for a venue, and total ticket sales overall.
