The retired, unretired, retired again and unretired again Barbra Streisand is making a rare live performance at the Village Vanguard, the subterranean jazz club in Greenwich Village in New York, NY, on September 26.
While an appropriate venue for the legendary singer to celebrate her upcoming album of jazz standards and classics, “Love Is the Answer,” at 123 person capacity, the demand will greatly outdistance the supply of tickets.
However, there will be no tickets for sale. One hundred ducats will be made available to fans who pre-order the CD or register free of charge on her official Web site.
Streisand previously played the famed Village Vanguard back in 1961 when she opened for Miles Davis. Musicians usually play the club for a week at a time or on Monday nights only for a long series of shows. Streisand is scheduled for one show only, and to boot, it is on a Saturday evening.
Streisand began her historic rise to concerts halls around the globe by starting out in Greenwich Village clubs, including the long gone The Lion and The Bon Soir. Her last farewell tour was in 2006.

It would be really nice if people who wrote columns actually knew what they were talking about before they wroye anything. Streisand has NEVER said she was “retiring”, in fact, there are numerous stories where she has laughed at the idea, stating that she doesn’t work enough to think about retiring. Also, Streisand never said her 1994 or 2006 concerts were “farewell” concerts anywhere. Only the final shows in 2001 in NYC were present as such. Obviously, one time, she did change her mind. ONE TIME. That hardly makes for a retired, not retired, retiring again etc. phony story that gets carried on in the uninformed press as if it were perpetially true. But I guess, if rags like these only spread the truth, there wouldn’t be much to talk about. Seems only bad or highly critical/catty/gossipy news sells. Truly a shame.
Mr. Grossweiner & Ms.Cohen:
Streisand’s 2006 was NOT billed as a “farewell tour”. The only concerts that Streisand has ever billed as “farewell” was in 2000. She performed 2 concerts in Los Angeles and New York.
Streisand has always said she’d never do a huge tour again that contained flying screens and huge set pieces. So, in 2006 her tour was stripped down and featured Barbra mostly just singing with a live orchestra — no “special effects”.
And now she is singing a one-off show at the Village Vanguard in September. Again, this is not billed as a “farewell” concert — where you got that idea, I do not know.
You’re joke about farewell concerts does not make me laugh. I just wish you’d get your facts straight. There are many other artists (like Frank Sinatra) who made promises about never performing again that you should write about. Streisand is not one of them.
You are reading too many right-wing Streisand talking points and not doing proper research. Please use your brains and stop regurgitating this stuff. Don’t writers think for themselves??
Your “reporters” have lost complete credibility (as has this site) with the misinformation of these “facts.” Please print the actual quotes from Ms. Streisand when she has said she has retired and please list the sources. Until you can do so, please refrain from calling this rag anything that has to do with real news.
If you’d like to hire a reporter with real credentials and real sources, contact me at my email address. Until then, good luck with your second-rate “news.”
Ugh!
