According to financial papers obtained by the New York Post, the upcoming Broadway musical “Billy Elliot” will cost investors about $18.5 million.

This certainly is one expensive dance class.

The musical, which will open in the fall of 2008 at the Imperial Theatre, is budgeted at a rate that makes it one of the most expensive non-Disney musicals ever.

(Disney never discloses costs – or, more to the point these days, losses – but it’s said that both “Tarzan” and “Mary Poppins” exceeded $20 million.)
