Acclaimed indie rock sextet Blitzen Trapper is currently entrenched in the European tour circuit, but the Oregon-based bunch will return to the U.S. for more than 20 performances this fall.

The four-week jaunt launches September 25 at McDonald Theatre in Eugene, OR, and comes to a close back in the Northwest on October 25 at Neumos in Seattle, WA. The folk-rockers also have shows lined up for September 28 at El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, CA; Oc tober 11 at The Bowery Ballroom in New York, NY; and October 23-24 at Doug Fir Lounge in their hometown of Portland, OR.

15 for $15 with Napster! In addition to all the traditional concert dates, Blitzen Trapper is also scheduled for a major U.S. festival appearance near the start of its tour. On October 2, the group will play an early afternoon set on the Dell Stage at Austin City Limits Music Festival in Austin, TX.

Most concerts on the calendar will open with supporting sets from Baltimore-based indie duo Wye Oak. A few other dates include additional acts on the bill, include The Walkmen (October 1), Leo Dejesus (October 4), and Norfolk & Western and Mirah (October 21). Tickets are already available for about a dozen dates of the tour, with more ticketing and lineup details available on the official Blitzen Trapper Web site.

Blitzen Trapper’s last studio album, “Furr,” hit the market in September 2008 and earned high marks from critics. Though it only hit No. 189 on the Billboard 200, the record found itself on several top album tallies for the year, including a No. 13 slot on Rolling Stone‘s list.

While a new studio album is still a way off, the folksters are awaiting the August 25 release of a seven-song EP. The title track on “Black River Killer” is a recycled gem from “Furr,” but the remaining tracks are rare recordings that had previously only been sold at live performances.

The band completed another U.S. tour leg earlier this summer. That outing was set at approximately 15 dates and ran from early July through the start of August.
