Iconic frontwoman Deborah “Debbie” Harry and new wave-punk band Blondie have announced plans for a 2009 tour, confirming six dates on an early 2009 West Coast jaunt. The North American trek kicks off February 20 at River Rock Casino in Richmond, BC, and continues through a February 27 date at Feather Falls Casino in Oroville, CA.

Other dates on the tour include a February 22 concert at Roseland Theater in Portland, OR, as well as a February 25 gig at The Fillmore in San Francisco, CA. Ticket sales have already started for most dates on the trek, though on-sale dates have not yet been announced for the February 21 or 22 shows.

Earlier in the year, Blondie celebrated the 30th anniversary of their breakthrough “Parallel Lines” with an album re-release and a subsequent summer tour of the U.S. and Europe. Originally issued in 1978, the album contains the band’s first U.S. hit, “Heart of Glass,” and has since been named on Rolling Stone‘s list of “The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time,” coming in at No. 140.

“The guys have gotten really good at what they do,” Harry complimented her longstanding bandmates on the official Blondie Web site. “I mean, they always were good players and songwriters, but I think now you could say they’re accomplished.”

Harry is quite the accomplished musician herself, having completed five solo albums since the 1980s, including 2007’s “Necessary Evil.” Though she has enjoyed most of her solo success overseas, the American singer-songwriter remains an icon in the States for her cool brand of sex appeal that helped redefine punk in the late 1970s and paved the way for strong, independent female artists like Madonna.
