Following up on a plan first proposed two months ago, the Green Bay, WI City Council Tuesday passed a law requiring street ticket scalpers to obtain a permit for reselling Green Bay Packers tickets.

In addition, on game days, street scalpers must congregate in a designated area next to Lambeau Field in order to legally resell tickets. There are no caps on the amount that can be charged for resold tickets, and the designated area and permits only apply to those reselling tickets on the street at a premium above face value. Fans reselling tickets at face value do not need a permit, according to published reports. The permit costs $800 per year.

Creating a designated area for street brokers in Green Bay resembles a similar proposal put fourth in Cleveland earlier this year.

Green Bay police pushed for the ordinance, because over the past few years, the number of scams involving counterfeit tickets to Packers’s games had skyrocketed, and authorities believed that setting up a designated zone for scalpers, and requiring them to get permits, would help reduce or eliminate such crimes.
