Blue-eyed soul chanteuse Colbie Caillat’s second studio album “Breakthrough” is living up to its name. As the up-and-coming artist anticipates a likely No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200 next week, she’ll also be in the midst of preparing for her upcoming headline tour.
The North American leg of the Breakthrough World Tour kicks off September 15 at the House of Blues in San Diego, CA, and wraps its 30-city circuit with an October 27-28 stand at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, CA. Singer-songwriter Howie Day will provide support for the North American leg.
Highlights of the fall outing include performances on September 16-17 at the House of Blues in Anaheim, CA; Setpember 30 at McMenamins Crystal Ballroom in Portland, OR; October 7 at Riviera Theatre in Chicago, IL; October 16 at Roseland Ballroom in New York, NY; and October 26 at Rialto Theatre in Tucson, AZ.
The 2009 itinerary also includes three concerts in Canada on September 29 at Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, BC; October 10 at Kool Haus in Toronto, ON; and October 11 at Metropolis in Montreal, QC.
The California-born singer’s sophomore album “Breakthrough” was released on August 25 in the United States, and a couple days earlier in various international markets. Billboard is projecting a No. 1 debut for the effort, with estimated sales in the neighborhood of 90,000 to 100,000 copies.
Caillat’s debut album “Coco” sets a high precedent, though. Since its release in July 2007, the effort has been certified double-Platinum and sold about three million copies worldwide, according to published reports.
“If something’s biting me, I hold it in because that’s the kind of person I am. Then it comes out in songs. Things builds up inside of me and I’ll write three songs in a weekend,” Caillat said of the songwriting process on her Web site. “It’s a release. I don’t choose what to write about. It’s just there.”
