After an amicable split 11 years ago, the members of alternative metal group Faith No More have officially announced plans for a reunion. The band is expected to hit the road this summer for a series of concerts across Europe, though no dates have been confirmed yet.
The band, which broke up in 1998, will resume with the same lineup featured on its last album, the 1997 release “Album of the Year.” Mike Patton will return on vocals, along with founding members Billy Gould on bass, Mike Bordin on drums, and Roddy Bottum on keyboards. Jon Hudson, who joined the band in 1997, will resume guitar duties.
In the years since the band split, fans have called for and conjectured about a possible Faith No More reunion. However, the rockers only recently sat down together as a group to discuss their options.
“What we’ve discovered is that time has afforded us enough distance to look back on our years together through a clearer lens and made us realize that through all the hard work, the music still sounds good, and we are beginning to appreciate the fact that we might have actually done something right,” the band explained in the official reunion announcement.
The veteran rockers continued, “Meanwhile we find ourselves at a moment in time with zero label obligations, still young and strong enough to deliver a kickass set, with enthusiasm to not only revisit our past but possibly add something to the present.”
Faith No More formed in the early 1980s and released six full-length studio albums over the years, beginning with the 1985 debut “We Care a Lot.” The band’s first big breakthrough came with the release of “The Real Thing” in 1989. The album, which peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard 200, featured the band’s most popular single “Epic.”
Patton is scheduled to perform at this year’s Coachella Valley Music Festival in Indio, CA. The vocalist will take the stage with longtime collaborator and beatboxer Rahzel. Faith No More is not expected to reunite for the festival.
