The flourishing alternative hip-hop rockers Flobots have a fall leg planned for their first national tour, which kicked off earlier this summer with a 24-show run of the U.S. and Canada. Currently on the road for a series of UK and European dates, Flobots will be back in the States for a previously announced appearance on September 27 at the Edgefest music festival in Queen Creek, AZ.
The new leg of dates continues on October 15 at the Power & Light District in Kansas City, MO, and wraps November 23 at Warfield Theatre in San Francisco. The 15-date trek will take the band on a coast-to-coast circuit, which includes an October 19 gig at Riviera Theatre in Chicago, IL, and an October 29 show at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston, MA.
In March 2008, the seven-man band signed with Universal Republic Records after independently releasing two albums, including 2007’s break-through “Fight with Tools.” The label subsequently re-issued the record, which peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard 200. The release was a follow-up to the 2005 debut “Flobots Present…Platypus.” MC Jonny 5 previously released an independent album under the Flobots name in 2001, though the rest of the current lineup did not join until the band’s reformation in 2005.
Despite an extensive summer tour schedule, the band also had a hand in the Democratic National Convention, which was held in their native Denver, CO. Flobots formed a non-profit organization Flobots.org to encourage civic engagement among the music community and its fans. In addition to sponsoring several convention-week events, Flobots also performed on August 27 at the Denver Coliseum as part of the Tent State Music Festival.
