Dave Alvin, T-Bone Burnett, Bill Morrissey, Stan Ridgway and other surprise guests are rallying around singer-songwriter Peter Case with a three-night benefit concert on May 1-3 at McCabe’s Guitar Shop in Santa Monica, CA, to help defray the costs of Case’s unexpected double bypass surgery, performed in January.

This past winter, Case began a session of his popular songwriting class at McCabe’s and was preparing to celebrate his 25th anniversary of solo performing at the intimate venue before setting off for a UK tour and parts of Europe. Instead, he found himself hospitalized and later successfully recovering at home. However, his incoming hospital bills and aftercare costs remain unresolved.

Case, one of 1976’s musical ground breakers with the Nerves, the leader of the Plimsouls and a three-time Grammy-nominated solo artist and producer, is also among the nearly 47 million Americans who are uninsured.

“I’m glad to be alive and lucky to have such great friends,” said Case in a statement.

Tickets are $50 each night with proceeds from the concert going toward covering Case’s expenses during hospitalization and his recovery from surgery. In addition, Case’s friends, fans and fellow artists established the Hidden Love Fund to help further alleviate the burden of his medical bills.

The May 1 line-up is yet to be announced. May 2 includes Alvin, Morrissey, Ridgway and special guests; and May 3 features Burnett with special surprise guests.

Information on Case’s return to McCabe’s for his 25th anniversary show is expected to be announced shortly.
