Gypsy punk collective Gogol Bordello is marking its first U.S. performances of 2009 with appearances at several of the nation’s music festivals and a new spring tour. The 13-city jaunt begins May 20 at Majestic Ventura Theatre in Ventura, CA, and closes out with a June 6-7 stand at Higher Ground in South Burlington, VT.

Highlights for the outing include a May 22 concert at The Catalyst in Santa Cruz, CA, a May 28 performance at Fox Theatre in Boulder, CO, a May 31 gig at Congress Theatre in Chicago, IL, and a June 5 show at the House of Blues in Boston, MA. Bordello is also booked for a May 25 set at the Sasquatch! Music Festival at The Gorge in Quincy, WA.

Pre-sales for the May and June concerts begin at 12 p.m. local time today (April 1). Philadelphia-based experimental rock band Man Man is currently signed on as a supporting act for five dates on the tour, May 29-31 and June 4-5.

After some early summer international performances, the punk rock crew will return to the States to hit the festival circuit. Gogol Bordello takes the stage on July 19 as part of the Mile High Music Festival in Commerce City, CO, and again on August 1 at the second All Points West Music Festival in Jersey City, NJ.

Based out of New York City by way of Eastern Europe, the eclectic band is known for its theatrical live performances led by high-energy frontman Eugene Hütz. Gogol Bordello is currently working on a fifth studio album with producer Rick Rubin, according to updates on the band’s official Web site. An estimated release date for the project has not been announced.

The group released its fourth studio album “Super Taranta!” in July 2007. The record served as a mainstream breakthrough for Bordello, hitting the Billboard 200 at No. 113 and placing at No. 14 on Rolling Stone‘s list of the Top 50 Albums of 2007.
