After a dozen U.S. dates in the spring and an extensive European tour, the British electropop outfit Hot Chip is kicking off its fall tour itinerary back in North America. The 14-city run begins with a performance at Street Scene in San Diego, CA, and continues through an October 9 gig at the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta, GA, before heading back to the UK.

Counting Street Scene, the British rockers have three festival performances on the books before returning to their preferred performance atmosphere of the club scene. The remaining festivals dates are the Treasure Island Music Festival on September 20 in San Francisco, CA, and the Austin City Limits Music Festival on September 26 at Zilker Park in Austin, TX.

“We’ve said pretty much all that can be said on a festival stage, and with only a handful more to play, we’re going back to playing club shows,” band members said in a statement on Hot Chip’s official Web site.

The quintet is touring behind its third studio album, “Made in the Dark,” released in early 2008. The record debuted at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Heatseekers chart and No. 109 on the Billboard 200, making it Hot Chip’s first real breakthrough in the U.S. The band’s previous album, 2006’s “The Warning,” only placed on electronic charts in the U.S., peaking at No. 13.

Hot Chip was formed in 2000 and is currently comprised of Alexis Taylor, Joe Goddard, Al Doyle and touring members Owen Clarke and Felix Martin. All five band members are known for their DJing skills and tendency to completely reinvent their songs during live performances.
