After nearly disappearing from the charts, the Jonas Brothers jumped from twentieth place to sixth place in the Overall Top Events for the week of March 17 – March 23, 2008 according to TicketNews’ exclusive rankings. This leap came after several weeks of steady decline since Feb. 10, when the Jonas Brothers peaked at the Number One position. The musical siblings also demonstrated dominance on the Top 10 Concert Events Chart, where they reemerged in second place.
Other best-selling events this week included Wicked, which managed to wrestle the title of Top Event from the grips of Jimmy Buffett, who fell to second place this week. Jersey Boys held fast in third place, followed by the New York Yankees in fourth and the Boston Red Sox, who climbed two positions to fifth place this week.
Following the Yanks and the Sox on the Top Sports Events Chart was the NASCAR Samsung 500 and the Chicago Cubs, which each advanced a position this week to third and fourth place, respectively. The WWE climbed two spots this week to pin down fifth place, and ticket sales for the fast-approaching NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament Final Four earned that event a sixth place debut on the charts. In other March Madness news, the University of Kansas Jayhawks beat out teams like the University of North Carolina Tar Heels, the UCLA Bruins, and the University of Memphis Tigers to become the eighth best selling sports event for the week.
This week saw little change on the Top 10 Theatre Events Chart, as Wicked, Jersey Boys, Lion King, Little Mermaid, and Young Frankenstein remained in positions one through five. A newcomer to the list, which appeared in eighth place this week, was an Elton John fundraising event for Hillary Clinton. The “one night only” concert will be held at Radio City Music Hall on April 9. Similarly, Wicked and Jersey Boys topped the Broadway Events Chart, with Little Mermaid, Young Frankenstein, and Lion King shuffling their order from last week to land in third through fifth place.
In concert news, Jimmy Buffett was “in paradise” in first place, with the Jonas Brothers and Kenny Chesney following closely behind. James Taylor will be singing “how sweet it is” to have switched positions with Alicia Keys from last week, as Taylor gained the fourth place position and Keys fell to fifth.
Lastly, the hot Las Vegas Events were headed up by Cher for the second week in a row. There is nothing devious about the “Dark Lady’s ways as she successfully continued her run at the top; only time will tell how long her reign will last. Elton John and the Red Piano climbed two positions to second place, while Bette Midler fell a spot to a respectable third place finish.
