Massive-selling but occasionally controversy-prone singer Justin Bieber has canceled the final dates of his “Purpose” world tour, ending a long stretch on the road.

With 154 shows on the tour already completed, the final stretch included dates in the United States and in Asia. The singer made the decision himself after much consideration. “It wasn’t a decision made overnight,” according to an unnamed source quoted in Variety. “He’s had some time off and was able to consider his commitments.”

His last performance on the tour was July 2nd, where he played London’s Hyde Park. The long stretch on the road started in March of 2016, with shows in each month since save for a break from late November of last year to mid-February 2017.

According to a story by Billboard’s Dave Brooks, soft sales may have made the decision easier on the singer and his management.

Just one of the 14 shows left on tour was a sellout, and in nearly every market, 5,000 to 12,000 tickets per show were available on the secondary, often placed below face value. that made it very difficult to sell any additional tickets, and in many markets there were large sections of the stadium that went unsold.

The official statement released by Bieber’s camp thanked fans and chalked the decision up to “unforeseen circumstances”

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Justin Bieber will cancel the remainder of the Purpose World Tour concerts. Justin loves his fans and hates to disappoint them. He thanks his fans for the incredible experience of the Purpose World Tour over last 18 months. He is grateful and honored to have shared that experience with his cast and crew for over 150 successful shows across 6 continents during this run. However, after careful consideration he has decided he will not be performing any further dates. Tickets will be refunded at point of purchase.

Bieber’s upcoming show in Arlington, Texas, was among the top sellers across the TicketNetwork marketplace on Sunday. Other upcoming dates included stops in Denver, East Rutherford, NJ, and the Rose Bowl in southern California. International stops included Japan, Singapore, and the Philippines.
