K-pop (Korean pop): Reportedly all the new craze, is so new in fact, that most of us have never heard of it, yet so sought-after by its loyal fan base that it’s taking nation(s) by storm. This new genre mixes music elements such as Pop (of course), electronic, rock, metal, and mostly hip-hop and R&B. As eclectic (and somewhat chaotic) as that might sound, the songs are actually mastered beautifully in a way that you need only be a fan of ONE of the aforementioned genres to enjoy an ENTIRE plethora of K-pop songs. Hence the reason why K-pop nation has arrived with a vengeance and could be here to stay.

But there are problems with this new global phenomenon that could impact its longevity. Some have already compared K-pop to the likes of “sensationalized cultural appropriation” or “melodious plagiarism.” With nothing truly original to add to the music industry as a whole, it is entirely possible that the K-pop movement could have FAD written all over it.

So is K-pop Fad for Forever? It’s hard to tell. What we do know, at this moment, is that numbers don’t lie. Thanks to social mediums, K-pop has been able to breakout of South Korea, sell out large arenas across the globe including massive arenas in New York and LA, achieve double digit growth rates, and capture a huge teenage and young adult following, permeating the world. We all know that when teenagers are head over heels for ANY thing, as is the case with K-pop, it means Big Business, and Big Business is the bottom line.
