Limp Bizkit has cancelled its planned summer amphitheater tour in favor of a possible fall trek through the nation’s arenas. Band frontman Fred Durst made the announcement via his official Twitter account on May 18, noting that he hoped the changes would result in “a better Limp experience” for fans.
The tour was scheduled to start July 3 at PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ, and continue through August 15 at White River Amphitheatre in Auburn, WA. Instead, the band’s North American itinerary will be limited to three festival dates: May 23 at Rock on the Range in Columbus, OH; July 2 at Woodstock en Beauce in Quebec City, QC; and July 18 at Rock Fest in Cadott, WI.
Limp Bizkit is still scheduled for its late summer tour of Europe. That venture will hit more than 20 markets across mainland Europe from late August through the first week of October.
The 25 cancelled North American dates have not been rescheduled yet, but the band is reportedly looking towards a fall launch for the new arena tour. Onsales for the summer shed venture began May 15, and refunds will be issued at the point of purchase.
“Basically, Limp is not an ampitheatre band. We like to see less seats in front of the stage and more floor filled w[ith] fans going bananas,” Durst said on Twitter. “It’s just more fun for all of us that way. Some bands are meant to be seen mainly sitting down, but definitely NOT Limp Bizkit.”
The rap-rock frontman continued in his statement, “We want to give you the best experience possible so we will reroute to the venues we feel will work the best. High energy, good times. We want you to have the best.”
The schedule and routing is not the first thing to change with Limp Bizkit’s tour plans. The band originally tapped Snoop Dogg as their special guest, but days after the announcement, the rap icon backed out of the tour. Ice Cube soon replaced Snoop on the summer calendar, while Method Man and Redman were also scheduled to perform on select dates.
It is not clear whether these artists will remain on the billing for the forthcoming fall 2010 trek. According to Durst, more details will be available on Limp Bizkit’s official Web site, though the site has not posted any announcements yet.
