You can add the 2012 Honda Civic Tour to the long list of star studded summer concerts featuring rock and roll heavyweights. This year’s tour is co-headlined by Linkin Park and Incubus. The two groups will also be joined by opening act Mutemath.

The Honda Civic tour started back in 2001 and was headlined by Blink-182 for the first leg of the tour. The tour has offered up top artists in rock and pop throughout the years including Maroon 5, The Black Eyed Pea, The Pussycat Dolls, and Paramore.

The Honda Civic 2012 Tour kicks off on August 11 and 12 in Bristow, VA and Uncasville, CT with Linkin Park as the only headliner for these shows. Beginning on August 14 at the Comcast Center in Mansfield, MA Incubus will join in for 18 shows, including 3 non- Honda Civic Tour shows in Canada. The final show is scheduled for September 10 in Chula Vista, CA at the Cricket Wireless Amphitheater.

Linkin Park burst onto the scene in 2000 with their smash hit album “Hybrid Theory,” selling over 10 million copies in the United States alone. The album featured the smash hit singles “One Step Closer,” “Papercut,” and “In the End.” The band followed up in 2003 with the even more successful album “Meteora,” which went on to sell 16 million copies worldwide. The album produced some of Linkin Park’s most popular singles including “Somewhere I Belong,” “Faint,” “Numb,” “Lying From You,” and “Breaking the Habit.”

After a 4 year break the band has gone on to release three more albums “Minutes to Midnight,” “A Thousand Suns,” and finally, on June 20, 2012, Linkin Park released their newest album “Living Thing,” which debuted at No. 1 in the United States. The debut single off the album was “Burn It Down” and they recently released the follow up single “Lost in the Echo.”

The alternative rock band Incubus reached mainstream success with the release of “Make Yourself” which went on to reach double platinum status in the United States. The success of the album was driven by the smash hit singles “Stellar” and “Drive.” Incubus went on to release three more albums “Morning View,” (2001) which is the bands highest selling album, “A Crow Left For the Murder,” (2004) “Light Grenade” (2006). After a five year hiatus, Incubus released “If Not Now, When?” in July 2011. While the band will be promoting this album during the tour fans can still expect to hear some of the classics as well.

Tickets for the tour could see a spike in demand with the announcement from Incubus frontman Brandon Boyd that the band will likely go on another hiatus. Boyd told Billboard.com “I have been tinkering around, potentially, with a second solo record. That’s probably the most likely scenario. But as far as Incubus right now, we’ll probably take another break.” However, Boyd doesn’t seem to believe another five year break is in order, and one can only hope that is the case for such a talented group.

In addition to providing fans with performances from some of rocks most talented bands the Honda Civic tour also has a tradition of letting the headlining artists design a Honda Civic. The car is then given away to one lucky winner at the conclusion of the tour. In addition to a Honda Civic, Linkin Park also designed a Honda CBR 250R motorcycle which is also a part of the sweepstakes.
