How do fans spell relief during these tight economic times? It just might be L-U-C-I-N-D-A. Three-time Grammy winner Lucinda Williams is offering fans attending her concerts a standing credit at her merchandise table.

“I cannot, in good conscience, sit back and watch my fans get blatantly gouged,” said Williams in a statement about fees attached to concert tickets. “As an attempt to offset these fees, we are going to offer a standing credit at our merchandise table to everyone attending our upcoming U.S. shows in 2009.”

Anyone attending her concerts in 2009 will receive a credit on merchandise sold at each venue — approximately $7 on clothing and $5 on CDs. For those who attended her shows prior to this offer, the credit has been extended to her online store at LucindaWilliams.com from April 1 to July 31.

“I understand that this may only be a small gesture and in no way solves the problem long term,” she added, “but I feel that it is important to try and do something to make it a little easier during this time.”

Williams’ upcoming leg of dates runs from August 18 at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, CA, through October 17 at The Pageant in St. Louis, MO.
