Rock band with a conscience Mae will continue promoting its latest charity initiative on the road this fall with a serious of U.S. club concerts. The 40-date (a)fternoon Tour launches September 24 at Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro, NC, and continues its main run through November 8 at Black Cat in Washington, DC.

The band will play U.S. clubs from coast to coast during its six-week venture. Highlights include a September 30 concert at The Social in Orlando, FL, an October 10 show at Soma in San Diego, CA, an October 28 performance at Reggie’s Rock Club in Chicago, IL, and a November 3-4 stand at North Star Bar in Philadelphia, PA.

In addition to Mae’s headline set, various other bands are signed on to provide limited support through the late fall run, including Locksley, Deas Vail and Jenny Owen Youngs. Public ticket sales have already started for select dates of the tour.

Despite lacking a traditional studio release to support, Mae will have new music to showcase on its upcoming fall run. The band is entering the final months of its charity music campaign, “12 Songs, 12 Months, 1 Goal: Make A Difference.” As the project’s name suggests, every month in 2009 the band will release a new song that can be downloaded with a minimum donation of $1, currently benefitting DonorsChoose.org.

Since starting the initiative in January, Mae’s song downloads have raised more than $50,400 for its selected charities, according to a count on the band’s official Web site, where the first seven songs of the project are available. The 12-song collection is divided into three separate EPs: the April 19 release “(m)orning,” the soon-to-be-completed “(a)fternoon,” and the upcoming “(e)vening.”

Mae’s previous full-length album, “Singularity,” was released in August 2007. The record peaked at No. 40 on the Billboard 200; it was both the first and last record released by Mae on Capitol records.
