Buffalo Bills great O.J. Simpson was booked by police in Las Vegas over the weekend on a host of charges related to his alleged involvement in what may have been an armed robbery of stolen sports memorabilia.

Simpson maintains that he was trying to retrieve items that he claims had been stolen, before the merchandise was auctioned off. There are conflicting accounts as to the number of people who accompanied Simpson last week to the room of Alfred Beardsley at the Palace Station hotel and casino and how many of them may have been carrying weapons. Published reports of witness accounts allegedly say Simpson was not carrying a weapon during the incident.

Celebrity gossip website TMZ.com obtained a recording supposedly of the incident by Thomas Riccio, owner of Universal Rarities, that contains shouting and obscenities.

In other, unrelated Bills news, the team lost it’s second game of the season Sunday 26-3 to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The game marked the team’s first contest since tight end Kevin Everett suffered severe neck and spinal injuries a week before.
