A new player is emerging in the field of music industry conferences with the goal of uniting industry professionals, artists and fans. The inaugural One Movement Festival, composed of Musexpo Asia Pacific and Indie Summit conferences, will launch October 16-18, 2009, in Perth, Australia.

“The goal of One Movement Perth is to be the most significant music industry conference and showcasing event in the southern hemisphere,” explained Julian Tompkin, publicity manager for the festival, in a recent interview with TicketNews.

One Movement is the result of a partnership among Musexpo coordinator A&R Worldwide and Perth-based Sunset Events. The groups, both looking to launch new festivals in the Asia Pacific region, decided to consolidate their efforts with the help of a third partner, Chugg Entertainment, an Australia-based promoter known for discovering and developing new talent.

“We are busily working on signing on a list of impressive keynotes as well as setting confident targets for delegate, artist and fan attendances,” Tompkin noted. “We believe the success of One Movement Perth will come with the fact that it’s the first major music trade event that will have a comprehensive Asia-Pacific focus.”

TFL and ATBS for ticketing professionals

In addition to hosting music industry-related panel discussions, One Movement will also serve as a potential launching ground for up-and-coming artists. Private artist showcases will run throughout the conference, giving conference attendees the chance to assess the talent base on a more intimate level.

Fans will also have a chance to scout the talent during a two-day outdoor festival. According to Tompkin, the multi-stage festival will feature more than 80 “emerging and export ready” artists, allowing industry professionals and fans alike to discover the next big thing.

Tompkin explained that One Movement will reach out to a three-fold audience. While engaging managers, labels, publishers and agents in a series of discussions about the future and development of the industry, the Perth event will also reach out to up-and-coming recording arts and “the tastemaker crowd” of world music fans.

According to Tompkin, attendees have already been booked from a number of diverse countries, such as Indonesia, Finland, Canada and New Zealand. For other delegates wishing to attend the inaugural One Movement Perth, event organizers are offering a limited number of Early Bird Registrations, available through May 15. Standard registration will run through September 18, followed by late and walk-up registration periods leading up to the event.

The festival is also currently looking for acts to showcase during its two-day concert event. Interested bands can submit an application for consideration through Sonicbids, a site that helps connect promoters with artists in search of a gig.

Details regarding fan tickets are forthcoming and will be updated on the official One Movement Web site.
