With more than 50 performances already under their belts for 2008, the pop rockers of OneRepublic are poised to begin their first headlining North American tour before the end of the year. The piano-driven quintet will follow their September 5 Fashion Rocks performance with a 12-date European tour before taking on the States again.
The new set of North American dates begins October 23 at the Partiot Center in Fairfax, VA, and wraps December 7 at the Sound Academy in Toronto, ON. Highlights of the tour include a November 15 concert at the newly renovated Hollywood Palladium in Hollywood, CA, and a November 26 gig at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York, NY.
Support for the group’s upcoming Tag This Tour! comes from Augustana, The Spill Canvas and The Hush Sound. In a statement, OneRepublic lead singer Ian Tedder explained, “We really wanted to put a great bill together and give everyone a real bang for their buck! The economy sucks and we think fans deserve a break.”
The band, formed in Colorado in 2002, also plans to treat fans with a series of social networking contests. “We wanted to do something for the fans to let everyone be involved with the tour,” Tedder said in a statement about the undisclosed plans. “We can’t let on just yet what’s in store but we want our fans to be prepared to have some fun with it.”
OneRepublic is best known for their 2007 hit single, “Apologize,” later remixed by acclaimed producer Timbaland. The song peaked at No. 1 on more than 20 charts around the world, including Billboard‘s Pop 100 and Top 40 charts. The track was the first single off the band’s debut studio album, “Dreaming Out Load,” which the current tour is supporting. OneRepublic released the Gold-certified record late in November 2007, a release that they followed with two early 2008 EPs.
