TicketNews has learned through various reliable touring industry executives that Paul McCartney will be the first artist to perform at Citi Field in Flushing, NY. The three shows are currently scheduled for July 17-18, and the concerts, more than 40 years after McCartney’s iconic performance at Flushing’s Shea Stadium with The Beatles, will be promoted by AEG Live. An official announcement is probably two weeks down the line, and there may be a third date added on July 21.

The three concerts will occur during the New York Mets extended All-Star break: their last game is on July 12 and their next scheduled game is on July 27. The All-Star break is July 13-15.

Shea Stadium, which was rich in rock and roll history, was replaced by Citi Field as the Mets ballpark earlier this year. Billy Joel was the last performer to play Shea with two shows last fall and was presumed to be the rocker to inaugurate Citi Field.

In addition to The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, Jethro Tull, Grand Funk Railroad, The Who, Simon & Garfunkel, The Police and Elton John & Eric Clapton also performed at Shea.

McCartney’s only upcoming confirmed concert is on July 15 at the Halifax Commons in Halifax, NS.

McCartney’s publicist and AEG Live did not return queries about the upcoming shows.
