Philip Glass, The National, Patti Smith & Jesse Smith, and Vampire Weekend are confirmed to perform at the 19th annual benefit concert and dinner for Tibet House, set for February 3 at Carnegie Hall in New York. Additional artists are expected to join the line-up. An American classical composer, Glass also serves as the event’s artistic director.
Primary market tickets for the concert and after-party dinner are only available through the Tibet House Web site. Concert-only tickets are only available through Carnegie Hall and are on sale now with face values ranging from $35 to $109.
The mission of the Tibet House is to promote and preserve Tibetan culture by serving as a cultural center in Manhattan and an online global resource for those interested in Tibetan culture. The Tibet House mission explains, “By presenting Tibetan civilization and its profound wisdom, beauty, and special art of freedom to the people of the world, we hope to inspire others to join the effort to protect and save it.”
Tibet House is part of a worldwide network of Tibetan institutions committed to ensuring that the light of the Tibetan spirit never disappears from the face of this earth. Performing artists at last year’s event included Glass, Ray Davies (who also performed in 2005), Band of Horses, Nawang Khechog, Ashley MacIsaac, Marisa Monte, Sufjan Stevens and Tom Verlaine.
