Up-and-coming indie rockers Ra Ra Riot have unveiled touring plans for 2009, including a January benefit concert with Regina Spektor and a winter tour of Europe. The main leg of North American dates starts up February 21 at Richard’s on Richards in Vancouver, BC, and continues through March 26 at Blind Pig in Ann Arbor, MI.
Along the way, the band will stop for a February 27 performance at The Independent in San Francisco, CA, a March 10 concert at The Parish at the House of Blues in New Orleans, LA, and a March 16 set at Slowdown in Omaha, NE.
Ra Ra Riot will appear with Cut off Your Hands and Telekinesis on North American dates prior to the band’s March 8 appearance at the Langerado Music Festival in Miami, FL. Later in March, Tokyo Police Club and Passion Pit will perform on select nights of the tour.
The indie quintet from Syracuse, New York, is supporting its debut full-length record, “The Rhumb Line,” which peaked at No. 109 on the Billboard 200 after its August release. A majority of the album’s content was written by multi-instrumentalist and principal lyricist John Ryan Pike, who drowned off the coast of Massachusetts after a concert in June 2007.
Despite the tragedy, Ra Ra Riot decided to continue with remaining members Wesley Miles, Alexandra Lawn, Milo Bonacci, Mathieu Santos and Rebecca Zeller. The band has toured previously with Tokyo Police Club, and opened for the Editors and Art Brut, among others. Ra Ra Riot recently completed fall and winter 2008 dates, including a brief UK tour with Vampire Weekend.
