Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland will go solo for the second time in his career following the band’s current reunion tour, which concludes October 31 at the Verizon Wireless Music Centre in Birmingham, AL. Weiland will begin his solo trek November 11 in North Kansas City, MO, and wrap December 4 at the Grand Ballroom in San Francisco, CA.
The 14-date trek includes a November 18 gig at the Fillmore in New York, NY, and a November 22 show at Lincoln Theatre in Washington, DC. Weiland is touring in support of his second solo album, “Happy in Galoshes,” which is set for release on November 18.
Best known as the troubled lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots (STP) and as the former lead singer for Velvet Revolver, Weiland released his solo debut “12 Bar Blues” in 1998. Though the album received some critical acclaim, it did not fair well commercially, peaking at No. 42 on the Billboard 200.
Weiland began performing with STP in the late 1980s, and band’s debut album, “Core,” was released in September 1992 and became certified as eight times multi-platinum in 2001. The band was active through 2003, but disbanded due to tensions within the group. In early 2008, STP announced plans for an extensive reunion tour of North America, including a headlining appearance at the 10th annual Voodoo Experience in New Orleans, LA, on October 24.
Rock supergroup Velvet Revolver reportedly fired Weiland as the band’s lead singer in early 2008 when his on-stage behavior grew increasingly erratic and they felt he was not fully committed to the band. Yet Weiland, who has battled bi-polar disorder and various addictions, attributed his departure from the band to the other members’ trips to rehab and issues within the group.
