After wrapping a summer tour and some scattered early fall dates, blues rocker Susan Tedeschi will hit the road again in a couple of days. Her month-long tour kicks off November 6 at the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts in Virginia Beach, VA, and wraps November 26 at Northern lights Theater in Milwaukee, WI.
The 15-city trek focuses primarily on the East Coast, with a few Midwest performances lining the end of the road. Along the way, Tedeschi will stop for a November 11 concert at the Berklee Performance Center in Boston, MA, and a November 20 gig at Park West in Chicago, IL.
Following the November run, the singer-songwriter will then take a few weeks off before closing out the year with some late December shows with her husband, Derek Trucks. Trucks is best known as a member of the Allman Brothers Band and his solo project the Derek Trucks Band. The four-show jaunt, which includes a New Year’s Eve concert at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, GA, features the pair performing under their collaborative name Soul Stew Revival.
Tedeschi is touring to support her fifth studio album, “Back to the River,” which hit store shelves on October 28. She calls the album a “pivotal” point in her career as she incorporated more genres of music than her signature blues and soul sound.
“The blues is still in there, but there’s a lot of other stuff too,” she is quoted on her Web site. “I definitely put a lot into this one and worked really hard to put a lot of ideas across.”
Not only has Tedeschi experimented musically on the new album, but she believes she has also changed her lyrical approach to songwriting. “I don’t think it’s my job to impose my opinion on people, but I do feel it’s my responsibility to write songs that reflect the times and how I feel about them,” she explained, noting that becoming a mother has changed her approach to songwriting.
She stated, “Becoming a parent makes you start to think on a different scale, and it made me realize that you can write more than love songs. Even if a song can’t change the world, you can still capture a little tiny bit of truth and deliver it to people.”
In 2009, Tedeschi will continue performing alongside her husband as part of the Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise based out of Fort Lauderdale, FL, from January 24-31. Afterwards, she will return to solid ground for at least eight more solo shows in February.
