Comprised of former Van Halen members Sammy Hagar (vocalist) and Michael Anthony (bassist), solo artist Joe Satriani (guitarist) and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, this American hard rock band released their debut album on June 5, 2009. The group’s name caused some mixed opinions since the term is used to describe the peace symbol in a disparaging way, but the bassist Michael Anthony stated that the name represents three talons on a chicken’s foot and there were three members in the band’s initial jam sessions.

Chickenfoot’s summer 2009 tour that is scheduled to end September 26th has traveled to 28 cities over a period of eight weeks. They originally planned to stay mainly on the east coast, but ended up expanding further west to cities including Grand Rapids, Colorado and Valley Center, California. In their attempt to not look like the typical “supergroup” and to consider each member’s individual achievements, Chickenfoot booked most of its performances at small venues or theaters, rather than large arenas.
