Getting its start as the “Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio” in 1923, the company more commonly known simply as “Disney,” is now the biggest media conglomerate in the world. Currently headed by Robert Iger, the entertainment goliath owns ABC, ESPN, Touchstone, Pixar, and Miramax Films, and internally controls four separate divisions: Walt Disney Studios, Parks and Resorts, Disney Consumer Products, and Media Networks.
Loveable characters like Bambi, Snow White, Mickey Mouse, Pinocchio, Cinderella, and the more recent WALL-E, among countless others, owe their existence to Disney. Among some of its films are the 2010 live-action remake of “Alice in Wonderland,” the fourth installment of “Pirates of the Caribbean,” and a remake of the “Swiss Family Robinson.” “Pirates” and “Robinson” are due in 2011 and 2012, respectively.
