Formed in 2005, Hollywood Undead is a rap rock band out of Los Angeles, California that became famous through the popular social networking website, MySpace. The band consists of six members, Charlie Scene, Johnny 3 Tears, J-Dog, Da Kurlzz, Deuce, and Funny Man. Their first song on MySpace “The Kids” received nearly a million plays in the first 9 weeks of release, and by 2006 received over 8 million plays, making them MySpace’s number one top unsigned artists. They broke out into the real world in August 2008 by winning a Book the Band contest against four other bands, which allowed them to debut their album “Swan Songs” live at the Virgin Mobile Festival.
They didn’t release their album “Swan Songs” until September 2, 2008 due in large part to their search for a company that wouldn’t censor their music. Once the album was signed with A&M/Octone Records, it grabbed the number 22 spot on the Billboard 200 in its first week of release. Other success came from their single “Undead” being featured on the “Madden NFL 09” and “UFC 2009” soundtracks, as well as the “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” movie trailer.
