Pearl Jam has sold sixty million records worldwide since its start in 1990. From the ashes of the fallen band “Mother Love Bone” came guitarists Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard, who brought on guitarist Mike McCready, drummer Matt Cameron, and singer Eddie Vedder to form Pearl Jam. The grunge rock band has had a history of going against the grain from their refusal to make music videos for any of their songs except “Jeremy,” to testifying against Ticketmaster concerning their fee structure. In 2000, they were blamed for the trampling deaths of nine fans at their concert in Denmark, though they were later cleared of all charges.
Instant classics “Alive” and “Black” are off their 13-times platinum debut album “Ten.” Eight other albums have followed since then, most recently “Backspacer” in 2009. Their 20 years of music making has earned them five American Music Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, and one win and thirteen nominations for the Grammy Awards. The band plans to tour Europe in 2010.
