Sonic Youth formed in 1981 in New York City. They started off as the Arcadians in late 1980 until Thurston Moore renamed the band Sonic Youth, which combines the nickname of Fred “Sonic” Smith and Big Youth. They have 16 studio albums, their first being “Confusion is Sex” which was released in 1983. Their most recent album, “The Eternal” was released in June 2009.
Sonic Youth is performing in the U.S., starting November 21 in New York City, Boston, MA and end in Brooklyn, NY. Then they will be performing their West Coast postponed shows (due to an injury) in Arizona and California in January 2010.
