Identical twins and indie rock duo Tegan and Sara will kick off 2010 with a lengthy touring tenure in North America. The singer-songwriter sisters will launch their New Year trek with a round of performances across their native Canada before dipping down into the U.S. for an additional two months of tour dates.

The Canadian trek runs from January 5-6 at the Orpheum in Vancouver, BC, through January 27 at Rebecca Cohn Auditorium in Halifax, NS. Stops include two-night engagements on January 8-9 at the Jubilee Auditorium in Calgary, AB; January 11-12 at the Jubilee Auditorium in Edmonton, AB; January 14-15 at Burton Cummings Theatre in Winnipeg, MB; January 19-20 at Kool Haus in Toronto, ON, and January 22-23 at Imperial Du Quebec in Quebec City, QC.

The American leg of the venture follows with a February 12 launch date at Calvin Theater in Northampton, MA, and concludes April 6 at In The Venue in Salt Lake City, UT. Highlights on the winter-to-spring jaunt include performances on February 13 at Orpheum Theatre in Boston, MA; February 23 at Variety Playhouse in Atlanta, GA; March 5-6 at Fox Theater in Oakland, CA; and April 2 at The Pageant in St. Louis, MO.

Tickets for most shows north of the border are already on sale. Tegan and Sara’s regular touring partner An Horse will open for the Canadian leg of the 2010 tour.

In the United States, presales opened today, October 14, and most public onsales start October 16. Exceptions are the performances in San Diego and Oakland, CA, which have presales set for October 21 and public onsales slated for October 23.

A supporting act has not yet been announced for the U.S. dates.

Tegan and Sara’s 2010 tour will promote the release of their sixth studio album, “Sainthood,” which will hit stores October 27. The duo’s previous effort, 2007’s “The Con,” peaked at No. 34 on the Billboard 200, marking their first ever entrance onto the U.S. charts.

Before launching the full 2010 tour, the Canadian twins will perform a brief run of concerts in the U.S. and Canada at the end of this year. The forthcoming U.S. shows are set for October 25-26 at Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles, CA, and October 30-31 at Town hall in New York, NY. A single Canadian date comes later on December 21 at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre in Victoria, BC.
