After years flying below the mainstream radar, The Avett Brothers hope to break into the public eye in a big way this year. The acclaimed folk-rock group will launch an extensive national tour to supplement its upcoming major label debut.

The venture kicks off April 16 at The Vogue in Indianapolis, IN, and will hit more than 40 cities through a September 4 appearance at the Strawberry Music Festival in Yosemite, CA. The coast-to-coast run is supplemented by two-night stands on May 15-16 at The Fillmore in San Francisco, CA; May 22-23 at McMenamins Crystal Ballroom in Portland, OR; June 12-13 at The Fillmore at Irving Plaza in New York, NY; June 16-17 at Carnegie Library Music Hall in Homestead, PA; and July 24-25 at the House of Blues in North Myrtle Beach, SC.

The folk-rock band will get a step up from their usual club and theater gigs when they join Dave Matthews Band as a supporting act for a few select dates. In all, the Brothers will open for eight shows from an April 22 performance at Time Warner Cable Music Pavilion in Raleigh, NC, through a May 6 concert at Cricket Wireless Pavilion in Phoenix, AZ.

The Avett Brothers are touring ahead of their major label debut, “I and Love and You,” which has a projected July release on Columbia Records. The musicians released their eponymous debut EP in 2000, but didn’t break through on the mainstream charts until 2007’s full-length release “Emotionalism” hit No. 134 on the Billboard 200 and topped the Heatseekers chart. The following year’s EP “The Second Gleam,” released around the time the group signed with Columbia, hit No. 82 on the Billboard 200.

The Avett Brothers consists of multi-instrumentalist brothers Seth and Scott Avett, as well as upright bassist Bob Crawford. Though officially a trio, the band frequently tours with a fourth member, cellist Joe Kwon.
