After scattered dates in the U.S. earlier this year, The Killers have cemented plans for a proper North American tour. The 14-city trek begins January 17 at Magness Arena in Denver, CO, and wraps February 4 at the Nokia Theatre in Grand Prairie, TX.

Along the way, the Las Vegas-born band will stop for a January 20 gig at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, IL, and a January 31 concert at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN. The Killers are scheduled to make a single stop in Canada for a January 23 show at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, ON.

Just last week on October 24, the rockers performed a sold-out show at New York City’s historic Hammerstein Ballroom, which quickly sold out, sending area fans into a frenzy searching for — and selling — tickets on the secondary market. On the upcoming tour, The Killers will return to New York and, as a testament to their proven drawing power, have upgraded venues. The new show is booked for January 25 at the famed Madison Square Garden.

The Killers will be supporting their third studio album, “Day & Age,” slated for a November 22 release. The record is the band’s follow-up to 2006’s Platinum-certified “Sam’s Town,” which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and spawned the hit singles “When You Were Young” and “Read My Mind.”

The band debuted in 2004 with “Hot Fuss” after being discovered and signed by British record label Lizard King. The album was released first in the UK, followed by a U.S. release on Island Records, and peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard 200. Just over a year later, the record was certified 3x Multi-Platinum. In addition to their studio recordings, The Killers also released a compilation of b-sides and rarities in 2007, called “Sawdust.”
