Modern progressive rock titan The Mars Volta will support its latest studio release later this year with a fresh round of fall tour dates. The U.S. trek kicks off August 29 at Outside Lands in San Francisco, CA, and concludes September 19 at San Antonio Municipal Auditorium in San Antonio, TX.

The late summer itinerary will hit 14 markets across the country, falling short of the East Coast, which is not yet represented on the tour map. Highlights of the venture are an August 30 to September 1 stand at Hollywood Palladium in Hollywood, CA, and a September 11 gig at Congress Theater in Chicago, IL.

The Mars Volta has also been confirmed as the September 13 headliner for the third annual Monolith Festival at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO. The two-day, five-stage festival will feature performances by more than 50 recording artists, including the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Walkmen, Of Montreal, Method Man & Redman, Girl Talk and The Dandy Warhols, among others.

Tickets are already available for select dates of the tour, with most of the remaining onsales bearing weekend onsale dates for July 31 and August 1.

The progressive rock band is supporting its fifth studio album, “Octahedron,” which dropped on June 23. The record, a more commercial departure from the band’s usually frantic and meandering style, debuted and peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard 200 and received modest reviews from critics.

“The only objective, throughout, has been to always move forward,” said lead guitarist and songwriter Omar Rodriguez-Lopez in a statement on the band’s Web site. “To always make the next album sound different to the one that came before it, to always be evolving.”
