Progressive rockers The Mars Volta are ready to hit the road again on a 12-date tour in support of their new album “The Bedlam In Goliath.” The third leg of their North American tour kicks off on September 12 in Columbus, OH, and is currently scheduled to wrap on October 2 in San Diego, CA.

The Bedlam In Goliath Tour kicked off on January 9 in Burlington, VT, and included dates across North America, Europe, Japan and Australia. The rockers are currently on break after finishing the second leg of their European tour on August 2 in Portugal.

“The Bedlam In Goliath” is The Mars Volta’s fourth studio album since their 2003 debut “De-Loused In The Comatorium.” Though dozens of musicians have appeared with The Mars Volta on tour and in the studio, the primary members are Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler-Zavala.

Rodriguez-Lopez and Bixler-Zavala began The Mars Volta as a side-project while members of the post-hardcore band At The Drive-In (ATDI). After officially splitting from ATDI in 2001, the two decided to pursue The Mars Volta full-time.

Following this leg of the tour, The Mars Volta will headline the third annual Detour Festival on October 4 in Los Angeles, CA. A portion of the festival’s proceeds will go towards non-profit Tree People, which works for greater sustainability within urban ecosystems. Other bands slated to perform include Gogol Bordello, Black Lips and Data Rock.
