After prominent spotlights on film and television over the years, alt-rock band The Shins has started the shift from indie favorite to mainstream success. Continuing to support their most recent studio album, the band has announced plans to take their act on the road for a one-month tour of the U.S. this May.

The 13-city tour officially launches with two-night stands in the band member’s current hometowns: May 4-5 at the Showbox in Seattle, WA, and May 6-7 at Crystal Ballroom in Portland, OR. From there, the quintet continues down the West Coast before hopping across the country for a round of East Coast concerts through May 18 at Terminal 5 in New York, NY.

The first public on-sales of the tour begin Friday, March 28, with other shows’ sales opening over the weekend. Tickets for most performances on The Shins’ spring tour are priced around $35. More information about on-sale dates and prices can be found on the official Shins Web site.

The Shins are continuing to support their third studio album “Wincing the Night Away.” Released in 2007, the record debuted on the Billboard 200 at No. 2 and topped the independent albums chart. It was the highest chart placement for the band since their 2003 record “Chutes Too Narrow” peaked at No. 86 on the Billboard 200.

Early in their career, The Shins were spotted by a Sub Pop representative while on tour with Modest Mouse and were eventually offered a deal to release their 2001 full-length debut “Oh, Inverted World.” The band soon received a push into the mainstream when actor-filmmaker Zach Braff featured their songs on his television show “Scrubs” and 2003 directorial debut “Garden State.”
