After more than 20 years of touring and recording, Canadian rockers The Tragically Hip are still going strong with lengthy tour plans on line for 2009. The five-month We Are the Same tour launches with an April 27-29 run at Centre in the Square in Kitchener, ON, and wraps with performances on September 30 and October 2 at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, ON.

The Hip will perform more than 50 shows in 28 cities during the North American outing, which includes a 12-city sweep of the United States. The U.S. itinerary features a May 8 performance at Nokia Theatre Times Square in New York, NY, a May 26-27 stand at the Vic Theatre in Chicago, IL, and a June 9-11 run at the Troubadour in West Hollywood, CA, among other dates.

In their native Canada, The Hip have a number of extended plays booked at venues across the provinces. The schedule is anchored with concerts on May 11-12, 14-16 and 19 at Massey Hall in Toronto, ON, as well as gigs on September 13-14 and 16-17 at Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium in Edmonton, AB.

The tour’s engagements are being billed as An Evening with The Tragically Hip, with the band appearing solo each night for a two-set show. Public on-sales begin April 9 for select shows in Toronto, ON; Edmonton, AB; and Hamilton, ON. Tickets for most other shows on the North American tour are already on sale.

The Tragically Hip are touring behind the release of their eleventh full-length studio record, “We Are the Same,” which hit stores April 7. Seven of the band’s previous records topped the Canadian record charts, with two more discs placing in the top five.

The Hip have placed in the lower registers of the Billboard 200 over the years, with “In Between Evolution” (2004) and “World Container” (2006) placing at No. 18 and No. 11, respectively on the Heatseekers chart.
