Some large scale exhibitions have been bypassing New York City due to the lack of space. However, with a new 60,000 square foot subterranean space in midtown Manhattan that used to be the basement of the longtime New York Times headquarters, Discovery Times Square Exposition will debut on June 24 with “Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition” and “Lucy’s Legacy: The Hidden Treasures of Ethiopia.” The traveling “Titanic” exhibit will be a limited engagement.

Tickets are priced $19.50 for adults, $18.50 (seniors) and $17.50 for children (ages 4-12) for both shows, and are available at the official exposition Web site. Discovery Times Square Exposition will be open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

“Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharoahs” will open next spring; the exhibition has been touring North America since 2005 and was unable to find a suitable home in New York City. “Bodies: The Exhibition” has been ensconced for the past four years in New York at the South Street Seapoort in a converted retail space with no end date in sight.

Running Subway Productions and Discovert Communications are the partners in the space.

“Over the past decade, wondrous exhibits traveling the world haven’t come to New York simply because no venue existed to host them,” said James Sanna, president and executive producer of Running Subway Productions, in a statement. “Discovery Times Square Exposition creates a world-class home in New York for great exhibits that bring fascinating and moving art and artifacts to light in dramatic immersive environments. We look forward to enriching New York’s dynamic and unsurpassed cultural landscape.”

As the number one non-fiction media across the globe, Discovery Times Square Exposition provides a strong growth opportunity for us to extend our reach to the streets of New York City,” added Tom Cosgrove, COO of Discovery Channel. “With Running Subway we look forward to continuing our mission of informing and entertaining consumers about the world around them and providing an interactive experience of learning through iconic subjects in the coming exhibits.”
