After a brief hiatus spent pursuing side projects, the members of alternative metal band Tool have announced the first details for a brief summer tour, which could signal progress on the band’s long-awaited fifth studio album.

Only ten dates are confirmed for the tour, which opens and closes with festival sets on July 18 at the Mile High Music Festival in Commerce City, CO, and August 1 at All Points West in Jersey City, NJ. Other stops on the two-week jaunt include a July 21 show at U.S. Airways Center in Phoenix, AZ, a July 25 performance at the Nokia Theatre in Grand Prairie, TX, and July 30 at Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA.

Tool has also been announced as a headline act at this year’s Lollapalooza, scheduled for August 7-9 in Chicago, IL, though the band’s exact performance date has not been confirmed.

Ticket sales for select dates of the tour begin on May 29-30. More concerts will be added to the itinerary once plans are definite, according to the official Tool Web site.

Though Tool does not have a new album release on the immediate horizon, the art metal quartet has reportedly been working on new material since the start of the year. Frontman Maynard James Keenan told MTV News in February, “We’re going to start writing the new Tool record right away.”

The band went on hiatus in early 2008 after finishing all tour plans behind their most recent release “10,000 Days.” That album, Tool’s fourth studio effort, peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and was certified Platinum about a month after its release in May 2006.
