The Jonas Brothers continued their comeback and earned the title of Overall Top Event for the week of March 24-30, 2008 according to TicketNews’ exclusive rankings. Brothers Kevin, Joseph, and Nicholas Jonas climbed five more positions on the Overall Top Events Chart to rise up from their sixth place finish last week. These “kids of the future” certainly appear to be enjoying success in the present as well.
Unfortunately, “no one mourns the Wicked” as the ever “popular” musical Wicked falls to second place for the second time this month. The production has of course earned a place among the top three events for every week of 2008 thus far. Rounding out the trio of chart toppers this week was the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. Cumulative ticket sales for all of the NCAA Tournament events even surpassed the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox ticket sales during baseball’s opening week. The Yanks and Sox maintain their fourth and fifth place spots from last week, respectively.
Aside from the NCAA Men’s Basketball, Yankees, and Red Sox, several other noteworthy events headed up the Top Sports Events Chart this week. The NASCAR Samsung 500 slid back a position to fourth place, while the New York Mets made a strong appearance on the chart in fifth place. The Mets will open their final season at Shea Stadium against the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday, April 8.
Both the Top Theater and Top Broadway charts saw Wicked, Jersey Boys, and Lion King in the first three positions. However, the Phantom of the Opera performed frighteningly well as the musical climbed to fourth place on the theater chart and reemerged at sixth place on the Broadway list. Other top theatrical events this week included Young Frankenstein, which held fast at fifth place in the theater rankings and in fourth position on the Broadway chart, and Little Mermaid, which fell two positions to sixth place on the theatre list, and finished down two spots in fifth place on the Broadway chart.
While the Jonas Brothers predictably topped the Concert Events Chart, the Dave Matthews Band “crashed” onto the chart with a second place debut. Kenny Chesney enjoys more of “the good stuff” as he remains the third ranked concert event this week. Jimmy Buffett “took another road” this week as he fell from first to fourth place, while Bruce Springsteen can enjoy more “glory days” as he reemerged at fifth place on the list.
Lastly, contributions to the top events of the week from Las Vegas included power trio Cher, Bette Midler, and Elton John in that order. Cirque du Soleil also enjoyed a profitable week, with “O”, LOVE, and Ka in fourth through sixth place, and Mystere finishing in the ninth position.
