With a bevy of sports events on deck and the release of much anticipated tour dates TicketNews’ exclusive venues rankings have experienced a significant shake up for the week ending August 26, 2012.
Despite all of the movement, the Eugene O’Neill Theatre kept a firm hold of its top position for the third consecutive week. “The Book of Mormon” continues to be a top earner on Broadway and the show’s traveling production has also ushered in the debut of the Pantages Theater at the number 14 position. This Los Angeles venue will host “The Book of Mormon” from September 5 through November 25.
Jumping from the 10th position last week all the way to the number two spot this week was Arthur Ashe Stadium. This comes as no surprise with tennis’ last major tournament of the year, the US Open, kicking off match play on Monday, August 27. The tournament which runs through September 9, brings the sports top men’s and women’s players to Queens, NY annually to put on a show for area fans. This year’s top seeds are tennis great Roger Federer for the men and Victoria Azarenka on the women’s draw.
Rounding out the top three is Dallas Cowboys Stadium. The venue improved five positions from last week. With the NFL regular season a little more than a week away Cowboys Stadium wasn’t alone in the rise on this week’s rankings. MetLife Stadium, home to both the New York Jets and New York Giants, sits in the fourth position while Gillette Stadium, Georgia Dome, and CenturyLink Field appear further down the list.
With the ticket release of two highly anticipated concerts, Radio City Music Hall shot up from the 13th position into fifth place. Electric Dance Music (EDM) DJ Avicii is set to become the first DJ to healdine a show at the venue this September. Tickets for the show were released August 17. Due to such a high demand there has been a second date added — tickets to that show go on sale to the public this Thursday at 10 a.m.
The biggest announcement however, came with the one-night reunion concert from the one-time tween heartthrobs, the Jonas Brothers. Tickets to their concert went on sale August 24. The October 11 concert will mark the band’s first concert together since 2010. Since then the brothers have kept busy with solo projects in music, theater, and television.
