Perennial road dog Willie Nelson hasn’t started his 2009 itinerary yet, but he’s already extended his tour plans for the New Year. Following his previously announced leg of dates in January, the country music legend will stay the course for at least two more months of non-stop touring.
The new round of dates picks up on February 9 and 10, when Nelson partners with jazz musician Wynton Marsalis for two special performances at the Lincoln Center in New York, NY. From there, Nelson has shows booked through a March 21 concert at Mari Center in Marksville, LA.
Highlights for the recently announced shows include a February 15 stop at Palace Theatre in Albany, NY, a February 21 concert at War Memorial Auditorium in Greensboro, NC, a March 12 set at Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, FL, and a March 15 gig at the House of Blues in North Myrtle Beach, SC. More dates are expected to follow.
General onsales for the February concerts have already begun, and the first Lincoln Center concert is sold out, though tickets are still available for the second date. Presales for the March dates will be announced soon on Nelson’s official Web site, with public onsales hitting in January and February.
Nelson collaborated with saxophonist Marsalis for a live 2008 album, “Two Men with the Blues.” The 10-song disc was recorded during a January 2007 concert series at the Lincoln Center, during which the two performers reinterpreted a number of jazz and blues standards.
Over the course of his career, Nelson has released dozens of solo, compilation and collaborative albums. The legendary singer’s most recent studio album, “Moment of Forever,” hit stores in January 2008. Following its release, the record hit. No. 56 on the Billboard 200 and climbed to No. 8 on the country albums chart.
