A case of double-booking has displaced an upcoming World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) event from the Pepsi Center in Denver, CO. The WWE’s Monday Night Raw has moved to the Staples Center in Los Angeles from the Pepsi Center in Denver on May 25. The Staples Center has also added an additional WWE Smackdown exhibition on May 26.

The Pepsi Center conflict concerned an NBA conference finals basketball game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Denver Nuggets. Both the wrestling exhibition and the basketball game also had huge television commitments; the basketball game could not be moved to another venue but the wrestling match could.

Venue managers sometimes book non-basketball and hockey games into their arenas during post season not knowing if their teams would need the venue on that date. The Nuggets realistically were not expected to advance this far in post-season and did not get this far in the past five seasons. To move the show to Los Angeles, WWE probably received a hefty buyout.

Tickets for both events go on sale May 20 through Ticketmaster. Box office ticket sales start on May 21 at 9 a.m.

“We were pleased that Staples Center could accommodate the change of venue from Denver to Los Angeles, which will allow our fans the opportunity to see in person two of WWE’s most popular events,” said Lee Zediman, general manager of the Staples Center, in a statement. “Thank you to Vince and Shane McMahon for working diligently to resolve the scheduling conflict.”
