Following the lead of several other cities looking to cordon off street ticket scalping, Cheyenne, WY officials are reportedly considering a new ordinance to create buffer zones around city venues.

The proposal would establish a 1,000-foot buffer zone around all venues in the city, which officials hope will help to end scalping of tickets in front of facilities.

The main driver for the new law is the popular Cheyenne Frontier Days festival, an annual multi-day event that attracts big-name performers, such as George Strait, Kenny Chesney and Taylor Swift. In recent years, ticket scalping, which is not illegal in Wyoming, has taken place in front of the event, which has upset organizers.

Tickets for the event have reportedly reached several hundred dollars on various secondary ticket Web sites, including on the Web site operated by TicketNetwork, parent company of TicketNews.
