Broadway Ticket Sales Report

Once again, Wicked is leading the pack this week with $1,365,614, a drop of $42,423 from last week, at almost 100% capacity. Jersey Boys ranks second in gross with $1,172,292, a drop of $25,609 from last week, at just over 100% capacity. Lastly, Mary Poppins comes in at $1,043,951, a whopping drop of $160,292 from last week, at only 85% capacity.

The only theatres showing any increase in grosses were The Coast of Utopia at $299,499, up $12,217 from last week at almost 100% capacity, and Translations at $182,632, up a modest $1,778 with about 87% capacity.

Other productions with respectable grosses and attendance, although still a loss over last week, were Spamalot with $790,600 with just over 90% capacity; A Chorus Line with $727,081 at more than 87% capacity; Avenue Q with $362,933 also over 87% capacity; Mamma Mia with $733,314 and The Lion King with $864,047, both at more than 82% capacity; and The Apple Tree with $290,275 and just over 80% capacity.

The Color Purple posted the week’s biggest drop in grosses: a $242,439 difference this past week over the previous week’s gross report at just over 51% capacity. Others following close behind were Rent, a $148,022 difference at less than 55% capacity; Hairspray, a $143,757 difference with just over 60% capacity; Tarzan, a difference of $140,830 at a little more than 70% capacity; Beauty and the Beast, a difference of $121,535 from the previous week and less than 68% capacity; and last, Les Misérables, a difference of $104,633 and over 76% capacity.

Total grosses for the week were $14,777,463.

OPENINGS & CLOSINGS:
Butley closed on Sunday, January 14 after 21 previews and 94 performances.
