Insomniac browser for ticketing professionals

Every theatre saw a drop in grosses this post-holiday week, but Wicked is wowing them in the top dog position at $1,404,787, with Mary Poppins at $1,240,899, The Lion King at $1,222,828, and Jersey Boys at $1,196,388.

Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas dropped attendance like Christmas trees drop their needles. Still, at 54% attendance—11,938—it continued its popularity to the end of its run on January 7th. Gross was $718,568, down from $1,708,885 for the previous reporting period.

Continuing to shine with between 95–100% capacity were Spamalot, A Chorus Line, Les Miserables, The Coast of Utopia, Avenue Q, and Beauty and the Beast.

Other productions did well with between 75% and 94% of capacity: . Chicago $610,776, Mamma Mia! $895,165, Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me $621,946, Rent $465,719, Spring Awakening $485,466, Tarzan $672,317, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee $231,322, The Apple Tree $339,680, The Drowsy Chaperone $852,133, and The Phantom of the Opera $839,849.

Losing some of its luster around the 50% capacity mark this past week was The Little Dog Laughed in spite of great reviews.

Other productions with more respectable grosses were Grey Gardens $389,439, and The Vertical Hour $397,993, at about 68% capacity, The Color Purple $648,157, at about 69%, Company $424,132, Butley $301,263, The Producers $614,990 at about 70% and Hairspray $562,487 at about 74%.

The total grosses for the week were $19,509,823.

OPENINGS & CLOSINGS:

Translations previewed on January 4th at the Biltmore Theatre with attendance of 49.13% capacity and grosses of $119,161. It opens January 25th.

The Wedding Singer closed on December 31st with grosses of $889,596 as reported previously.
