By Bob Grossweiner and Jane Cohen
Keller Williams has been called guitar’s mad-scientist, a one-man band for the new millennium, and dozens of other clever sobriquets by fans and music journalists. Though his music has evolved since he first started playing more than 20 years ago, some things have remained constant: Williams is a prolific artist, an exceptional guitarist and an accomplished songwriter. He has been touring for the past 15 years with instruments and pedals, averaging 150 shows a year.
Generally touring as a one-man band, this past summer he formed Keller Williams and The WMD’S featuring Williams on guitar/vocals, bassist Keith Moseley (The String Cheese Incident), guitarist Gibb Droll (Marc Broussard) and drummer Jeff Sipe (Aquarium Rescue Unit, Trey Anastasio, Susan Tedeschi, Phil Lesh). The WMD’S debuted at select festival performances this past summer, including Bonnaroo, and now their November run of shows brings them to indoor venues on the East Coast for headlining shows. Following that trek, William’s one-man entity will continue with a few dates in December, as well as appearing with moe. and The Disco Biscuits
Williams’ 12th album release, aptly titled “12,” which he dubs his album of “hitless greatest hits,” includes one new, previously un-recorded song and will be released on Dec. 18 on SCI Fidelity Records.
