The Allman Brothers Band have decided to abandon their annual residency at the Beacon Theatre in New York City this year instead of trying to reschedule it, the band announced Thursday. The band will resume doing the multiple-date showcase in early 2009, but they have confirmed other concerts for this summer.

This year’s Beacon series, a group tradition started in 1989, was postponed while singer/keyboardist Gregg Allman continues his recovery from treatment for Hepatitis C. His illness also caused the band to cancel its performance at Bonnaroo this year.

Tickets for the Beacon shows purchased by phone or internet through Ticketmaster will be automatically refunded. All other tickets will be refunded at point of purchase. Information on purchasing tickets for the 2009 Allman Brothers Band’s run at the Beacon will be announced early next year.

“New York’s a second home to us,” said Allman in a statement. “We love playing there and are as disappointed as anybody not to be able to get there this time.”

TFL and ATBS for ticketing professionals

The Allman Brothers Band will resume its touring schedule in August with special guest Bob Weir & RatDog. Four shows have been confirmed; dates for shows in upstate New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Illinois and Colorado are expected to be confirmed soon.
